Dress code : Blanket & thermos flask?
Be interested to see how the PINK DUKE performs.
Over the 3 Australian day/night Tests they have gradually left less extra grass on the pitch which was needed to stop the ball scuffing and becoming invisible. The games have gradually become more like a normal Test after the first had a top score of about 220 and the ball hooped around in the twilight.

Jimmy (i think) said this week it goes soft quickly so may not be the low scoring affair people expect
Looking forward to this.
And two big games in the next two days elsewhere

Brathwaite is the only player I recognise from that Windies side, gone are the days when the whole team were household names

So that's 13 opening partners for Cooky in 5 years. Is there anybody actually left in county cricket to try, being there's only 18 counties?

So, in no more than 50 words, please can somebody tell me, what do they put in red, pink and white balls to make them different. Apart from different colour dyes.

Apart from the dye, they're no different are they?

I thought they'd spent the last five years trying to develop a ball that wouldn't fall apart like a white ball does. Surely that can't be just the dye? Maybe it is...

Luke Wells must surely be next in line for a shot at the opening berth?
Oh and pink balls are awful, they don't retain the shine and the lacquer comes off really quickly. Give me a Gray Nicholls ball every day.

England are fucked when cook goes.
And a bit early to judge some, but this Windies attack is worse than Afghanistan's, so several failures wouldn't be good.

I understood there is some sort of oil that they put in the dye when they make the red ball that they can't put in for the white and pink as they would be too dark. And it is this oil that protects the red ball better than the others.

Only makes sense if there is literally no other oil on Earth that can protect the leather on the ball in a similar way. Which seems a bit strange.

It's just to do with when you soak the leather in oil it gets darker which doesn't matter with the red ball but there isn't one that stays light as it soaks in. Which is why you sometimes hear that when fast bowlers pick balls out of the box from umpires before a Test they often look for the darkest ones.
